Average sized dove rescued

Later today a dove was found in my chicken coop, my first thought was that it had sadly passed away so I poked it and I moved. As I took it out of the coop I noticed its wing was fairly hurt and it had blood all over the bone I had just arrived back home after rushing it to the hospital the vet had said there was no damage done to the inside but just a small cut that had opened up and bled. I will keep you guys updated with the birds ststatus I am hoping to get my parents to help me let it free.

Hi, Par. Before you release this dove into "the wild" you might want to get an identification of which species it is. There are several introduced dove species (e.g., Spotted Turtle Dove, Barbary Dove) which are best kept out of "the wild" because they compete successfully against native doves successfully against native doves. I'm confident you wouldn't want to see our native doves threatened by feral doves.

Hi Woko I have already found and researched was type it is and it is a spotted dove which died this morning

Thanks for the update, Par. Our heart strings are always given a solid tug when a creature, especially one we've cared for, dies.

Thanks for sharing Par and good on you for taking the time to care. While it is very sad to lose something we have tried to rescue it gives a little bit of reprieve to know that there is now 1 less competitor for food for our beautiful native doves. Which gives them just that bit more of a chance to survive. Well done :)

I have found another Bar Shoulder Dove who is covered in some sort of bug/insect. Can someone tell me what these could be.

Most probably a mite of some description, a visit to the local vet, or find a wildlife rescue service near you from the link below
