Lovely captures as always shorty. :) Particularly fond of the Kite, but... anyway.

On Dotterel-related matters - I've been spotting Black-Fronted Dotterels a lot lately doing some good Road Runner impressions. (out of the water and crossing mown grassy areas a reasonable distance from water) As soon as they spot me they lean right forward and go racing off in the other direction as quick as you please.  I'd seen them do it a bit on the shoreline, but for some reason it just strikes me as more amusing on dry land.

Not that I was chasing them, of course. But I saw them in a couple of different locations doing it in the past few weeks.

Anyway, birds!

Were they trying to lead you away from their nesting sites, windshear?

It's possible, though where I encountered them didn't seem like obvious nesting spots for wading birds (dry grassy ground, a fair distance from the nearest water). The first time I saw one doing it, I wasn't quite sure what it was until I looked at it through the camera lens. The second time it happened, I realised what it was and just tried to walk around where it was.

I'm not planning any more trips to the places I've encountered them in the near future, but it's something to be mindful of.

oops: That sounded a bit defensive after reading it back. I mean my general "obviously this bird is unhappy with me for some reason" sense was going off. It seemed like odd/amusing behaviour, but perhaps there's a logical reason for it.
