Backyard Honeyeaters

Actually, that heading is a bit of a lie. These birds were in my FRONT yard today. When I bought my house 12 months ago, the front yard had a few lavendar and rose bushes, and I rarely saw native birds there. Even now, 6-12 months after starting to plant natives and expand the small garden, the honeyeaters are gratefully rewarding me with visits. I'm loving our autumn / winter (altitudinal) migrants at the moment (Crescent HE, Eastern Spinebill, and Tas-endemic Black-headed HE's).

Cresecent Honeyeater - these seem to chase the spinebills, but themselves get chased by the NHHE's:

Eastern Spinebill - not a great shot (and yes, there's some weedy blackberry in there...). These are my favourites at the moment:

A group of about 25 Silvereyes then invaded the area - I love how they end up in every bush and covering every bit of ground when they visit, before flitting off together:

A New Holland Honeyeater was watching, annoyed at something, from the power lines above:

I love it when I actually have my camera handy and the birds oblige! Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Scott.

HI Scott, have you posted anything on the new system before now?  Looks like you are using the old way . I just had a look at one and they are way too good to leave as links I will see if I can fix that for you.

Phew that was a mammoth effort for the brain lol

All done.... absolutely lovely shots

What a wonderful group of visitors to your garden, Scott. Crescent HE would be fantastic to have in the garden. ATM, we are lucky to have a few ESpinebills in our garden.

They are all great photos Scott, but the first one is my favourite, you should be very proud of these.

Thanks very much Birdie! I'll have to look into the new way, I'm guessing it's easier anyway... :)
Thanks all for the comments. The first pic is my favourite too Shane. GeorgeP - aren't Spinebills great?! I love their call too.
It's just nice seeing a variety of birds enjoying the fruits of my gardening labours :) I'm begging all the plants to hurry up and grow faster and flower more!!
Cheers,
Scott.

It's obviously very satisfying watching your new garden grow & the native birds that are using it. I find that wildlife is an integral part of a garden. Without it the garden is incomplete.

Great stuff Scott, I wish I got that range of honeyeaters in my yard.

I recognise the plant in the top shot, as I have a few of them in my backyard (side yard?)

Grevillea 'Canberra Gem' - a bit prickly, but hopefully good cover for the small birds...

Cheers
