Australian (nankeen) kestrel

I zipped out this morning for a quick look at the kites and Australian kestrels at East Maitland. When I got there I realised that my battery was almost flat, and while I had put the spares out to take, I had not actually put them in my bag. I got a few shots and enjoyed just watching, but on the way out I heard a sulphur-crested cockatoo screeching. I looked up and saw it in a hollow and the Australian kestrel was perched in a tree near it, where I could have taken many marvellous photos (in case you haven't guessed, my battery went completely flat before I saw them). Don't you HATE that?

Don't worry sis - be thankful it was only your batteries.
Today my auto focus went belly up. Lens still under warranty - maybe a month before I get it back. Meanwhile I'm out of the birding business.

Nick, been there, done that myself just recently - had plenty of cards at home of course ... first time I had ever shot 4 megs in one shoot - mistakes are a wonderful teacher!

THanks everyone - I can see a lot of people identify with this situation.
Tark - you'd better be nice to Sandra so she lends you her camera

Birdgirl, I too enjoy watching the birds, which comes in handy when you leave the camera at home. I then dream of the shots I could have got. Glad you were able to get at least one for the record. I offered Tark the use of my Cannon as I am out of action at the moment. You know his response, so he can just suffer. LOL
.
Tark, THIN ICE..............
