Birdie, just on dusk, during the day one or other of the birds would be in shade while the others were in bright light, any use of the flash to brighten the shaded bird would over expose the bright bird, very difficult to balance. In this case I did take some shots during the day but went back at dusk.The family had been roosting in the same tree for several weeks so not hard to find, I could not see them last weekend so maybe they have moved deeper into the bush, they had been just a few meters from the car park.
Thanks Ed, the result from the 430EX is a good balance, it is great to be able to flash compensate for this kind of reason.
Also thanks re the Catbird comment, I am fairly sure now that it is the Green catbird doing the hissing. It must be a breeding time behaviour as they live here all year round and I have never heard them do this before.

so Ed was they in the same tree by the hideout again. We went to the common about a month ago but could not see them. glad they are still about.
