Beauty Without Borders

This White Faced Heron was foraging at the mouth of the Glenorchy rivulet by the Derwent Entertainment Centre - it's not a place that I would choose to gather food as just metres away the stench of a sewerage treatment plant made me gag! But, like Médecins Sans Frontières, beauty is without borders and may be found in the most unsanitary of places it would seem.

Nice one, love it's yellow legs!
Waterbirds seem to love places like wastewater treatment plants - eg also Sorell

I wonder what it is that that attracts them to the effluent ...? Remind me never to eat one!

Hey yeah I was watching a birding programme the other day and the 'birdman' (I forget his name but someone well known!)was showing a guy and his young son how to find birds and he took them to a sewarage treatment plant early in the morning as he said it was THE best place to spot birds, he was right they saw heaps. Don't know if I could manage to take photos with a peg on my nose though!

Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best

Hi Hev, yeah, there must be something in that sewerage that attracts them (I won't get vulgar! LOL).

Is that a tango or a Rumba Tark? lovely shot.

It takes two to tango so it has to be a rhumba, heva.

Well I guess we have to make sacrifices to get great photos like this. I think I'll give the sewage a miss though!
