Thanks everyone - I had a good laugh when I saw the photo
smeedingo2 - good luck with the box and be patient; they often look for weeks then go away then look again (or others do) before they move in.
You did well to catch that 2nd shot birdgirl ... and that nesting box explains why birds let you get so close to them - they are so used to seeing your face inside it that they think you're family!!! LOL
They do get very used to us. This is our 2nd galah baby from 2007, Donald, who took 10 days after jumping out of the box to leave our backyard. He got so used to us he walked onto us (his choice!). His parents understood that we were helping him (eg by putting him back on the box each night for safety). After our cat and dog had been locked inside for a week while he strolled around our garden, I put him in the dog travel cage in the garage for a while each day so they could go outside. When his parents came back and called out to him I had to get the cat and dog back inside and let him out!
Great boxes. I wish you luck. We had 2 different pairs of rosellas looking at our rosella box today. One female spent quite a lot of time inside, scratching around. I forgot to say that we put bird lice and mite powder (pyrethrin based) in the leaves before they nest and dust the babies once when they are a few weeks old (when they are too young to bite hard and as soon as we know the parents have definitely left them for a while so they don't see us handling them or hear the noise they make when we open the lid). The parents have never seemed to mind the powder. A few years ago we lost all the galah babies and the only thing we knew for sure was that the box was overrun with lice (because I took a photo and got lice all over the camera and my hand).
Birdgirl you put a smile on my face!it looks like its been slingshoted of the branch, good one.
It does look like someone has fired him!! Great shot!
HI Birdgirl

PS; One box is up 6m but dose not look high in with the gum trees but we will see thanks.

HI Birdgirl
I can only hope I posted a photo of the box in general I will put the others in a more open place.
I haven't found the photo of your nesting box

I have come to respect the high intelligence of birds ... they leave more than just a few of us humans for dead ... "yours truly," for starters!
