I went to some flat land at East Maitland today because I had heard there might be birds of prey. I saw one, but it disappeared as soon as I parked the car. I saw many parrots and good nesting hollows. There were also some nice water birds.

Birds at East Maitland
Gidday Birdgirl,The first shot you have there I am pretty sure is a Black Faced Cuckoo Shrike.
Good variety of birds there, and the parrots seem to be nesting.
Looks like you had a good day.
Well done.
Hi Birdgirl, I wish that I could make contact with so many different species in a single outing. You have caught some nice ones there.
It's so wet and miserable down here at present that there don't seem to be many birds out and about. The back of my place overlooks a leafy glen that in spring and summer is alive with birds - where did they all go I ask myself? This is my first year birding so as yet I'm pretty clueless.

Hey Tark, all the birds out of your leafy glen left and flew to QLD where its warmer :)
Ah, I see I have a mentor in you Birdgirl! ... Well, if that's where they've gone for winter then I know they'll be in good hands. ;)
Oh, and that reminds me - tonight on the 7:30 report there was a segment about a rare and endangered species, the Eastern Bristle Bird of which there are just a few of them left. They are somewhere on the NSW / QLD border, the only place now where they exist. I wonder if you saw the segment?

Oops ... sorry there Tassie, I thought it was Birdgirl who responded to my comment. Wouldn't it be great if we could edit our threads occasionally! ;)
