Today we had quite a few visitors. The gum trees are flowering, the grevilleas are flowering and the bottlebrushes are just about to flower. We have had huge numbers of rainbow lorikeets and some scaly-breasted lorikeets. As I'm typing I can hear blue-faced honeyeaters, but it is too late to photograph them - you'll have to take my word for it!
A pair of kookaburras came in this morning. The rosellas were not impressed
The crested pigeons visit every day. I found that as the feeder swung around, their colours lit up (just like yesterday's ducks)
Spotted turtle doves also visit every day
I didn't know why this galah was screaming at me until I felt a cat brush past my leg
A pair of scaly-breasted lorikeets visited the pink surprise grevillea
A rainbow lorikeet looks nice in the late afternoon sun

Hi sis, your photos go from strength to strength, this is a fantastic set. But the galah deserves a special mention. But how cruel of you to taunt a guy with a busted birding lens! :((

I agree with tark... great shots my fave is the crested pigeon..vivid colours only appreciated with a good shot like this. Just curious are you two bro and sis or do you call everyone 'sis'?! and how did you bust your lens? did you have a tanti 'cos your sis takes better shots? hehe ;)
Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best
Birdgirl, another series of good shots, yes like the crested pigeons best.
Beautiful shots of your garden visitors. The Crested Pigeon shot shows the colour in the wings to show so well.
Cheers,

Hi hev Well, because we're kinda like a family here I decided to call her sis. So far she hasn't objected so I guess it's alright, and a whole lot shorter for a woeful typer like myself! LOL
.
Dunno why the AF system in my 140- 600mm (equiv.) birding lens went belly up right in the middle of a sequence - just a glitchy thing - meanwhile I'm reduced to working with a 80-300mm (equiv.)

HI Birdgirl
Very nice shots as normal like them all.
PS' T Try shooting with a 200 lens thats tough (T=Tark).
Tark... my heart bleeds for ya!!FOCL :)

Tark - I had also been waiting with interest for your answer to Hev's question. It's nice to think that I now have rellies in other parts of Australia!
And I do feel for you about not having your camera - I go through stages of being obsessed with taking photos and stages of being discouraged because my photos aren't improving.
Hey Birdgirl ...if what you post on BiBY is anything to go by...you take fabulous shots, especially your action shots (hard to capture...I keep trying!)

Hey sis, as they say, you can choose your friends but not your rellies - sadly I'll have little to leave you to remember me by but a bunch of antique cameras!
.
I have my camera but not the 140-600mm bird lens. I went out this morning before the rain with my 80-300mm and all I could get close to was some kind of pidgeon!

I just realised, isn't it a turtle dove like yours above?

Thanks everyone
Hev - thanks for your kind words - still about 96% of what I take is not sharp enough for me or has some critical flaw
Tark - you can just leave me a copy of your wren photo. Your shot is a very sharp photo of a spotted turtle-dove (not native - came from Indonesia - but not a pest as far as I know)
I just love the colours in the doves wings. Yesterday I was buzzed by a pair of some kind of doves, and they shone with a beautiful green through their wings. Someone said they were bronze wings but I'll have to look them up . They had a definite cream bar at the tip of the tail.

Sis, you are an oracle when it comes to birds, I really wish I had the brain that could memorise the details.
You are welcome to copy and print my wren for your own personal use - just let me know if you need a larger file -
should reach me.
