Thanks to all of your for the great feedback!

To everyone else: apologies for the German part :) It's just the two lenses I'm using.

Thanks for the information ,I had no idea, the 500mmF8 has been taken off, that is exactly the lens I wanted. So, I should make sure I can still find one. Any idea why? It has just come on the market! I had a feeling that you took those photos with the 500 f8. Danke fuer die Info! Marie-Louise

The 500F80 has been around for many years, it's actually an old Minolta design that Sony just relabelled when they acquired Minolta. I can imagine 2 reasons why Sony discontinued the lens:

- Sony is about to release a 500 F4 lens for Alpha mount. But it's a huge and expensive one compared to the 500 F8 Reflex.
- The F8 Reflex actually has a few drawbacks, e.g. you need very sunny conditions. When I set the A55 to auto ISO and 1/2000 (my common setting for moving birds), many of my photos end up as ISO 1600 because the A55 sadly doesn't have a max ISO setting. However, the A55 is so great at high ISO range, that it usually doesn't matter. When scaling down the image (I always publish 1024x1024 to Flickr) and adding a bit of sharpening with software, it still looks awesome. Another drawback is the donut bokeh (the curly background blur).

I'm quite a fan of the F8 Reflex though, I love the curly background blurs it creates ('donuts') and it's just an awesome light 500mm lens for travelling and hiking. It even has auto-focus and image-stabilisation with a Sony Alpha body.

Thanks Matthias for the info, I just wish, I had the money right now!! Ich habe auch 2 Objective, the Sony 4.5-5.6/75-300, and the Sal 1855 , die ich so gut wie nie benutze.I knew the F8 is a Minolta.(I think they have Zeizz lenses ?) Anyway, a girl can dream??
