I saw a black-shouldered kite the other day and got some flight photos as it flew from one power line to the next. I'd love to get it hovering but this one seems to prefer perch hunting. Look at its talons!

WOW! amazing photos, thanks for sharing them with us. I think you are right they do seem to hunt from a perch rather than hovering.
I've seen plenty hovering, but this one I've seen twice and waited for more than 30 minutes each time and it just sits on the powerline and looks down when I'm there
Absolutely stunning photos. I've never had a clear prolonged sighting of these birds, so it's great to look at these photos, although I am a bit jealous. :-)
Amazing. Love the shot of it coming in to land. Well done.
Beautiful bird.
I used to watch these a lot living southwest of Sydney, but haven't any since moving to the coast. Thanks for sharing.
I love them , but No4, the landing the most! Out of this world!! (I will practice!LOL)Not the landing, taking photos of BIF. M-L

Sensational Birdgirl, those talons do look like they could do some damage!
Now, I see your bsk shots :)
You're getting better and better on bif's, keep shooting and sharing :)
Great series there. The whites look great and the poses are classic BSK.
Cheers, Owen.
Great action shots and your photos are very sharp - you certainly were in the right place at the right time.
