Went bushwalking this morning at a place called Dantes Glen in Lawson NSW. While i was waiting for friends to turn up, i heard first & then spotted this lovely Brown Cuckoo Dove. It has wonderful long tail feathers & a distinctive call. On the last part of our walk this morning we were all lucky enough to spot a Wedge tailed Eagle aswell...go some pics but their not that crash hot...spewin. Any way it was still a privilege to see it anyhow......

Brown Cuckoo Dove @ Dantes Glen
Great shot of a bird that I struggled to get shots of. I really love their calls and their looks as well.
Cheers, Owen.
well done on both counts mate. Just about every time I've been out at Lawson I somehow manage to spot a Wedgie. :-) I am pretty sure they would have a nest within a two square kilometer radius from there, perhaps in one of the gullies below.
Nice one Mrtattoo, another we haven't seen.
thanks everyone. Windhover, ive heard that there is a nest down at woodford dam somewhere. i saw 2 wedgies last year flying very low around there when i was walking one time. cheers daz
if your happy when your birding, flap your wings.
This is the first time we've seen the Brown Cuckoo Dove in our garden in the Upper North Shore of Sydney and we've lived here for 27 years. An exciting encounter as they sat on our roof and made eye contact for over 5 minutes.
Any idea why they might be turning up after all this time, mazzlev?
