Brown falcon

Hi everyone
Well I decided it was time to take some more photos of birds of prey and was luckier than I dreamed. I was doing one of my least favourite things; tramping through long grass (snakes) when I spotted a dark bird of prey flying over to a tree. The sun was low so it was hard to get a shot from where I was that wasn't all purple. Before I left I was focussed on it with my camera on the right settings, knowing that I could get a great photo when it flew. Sweat was running down my back, the viewfinder was fogging up and hands were shaking (big lens on). I must have lost concentration just before it flew because I missed the moment but got a couple with it a bit cut off.
I went home expecting it to be a swamp harrier, but as I looked through my books I was thrilled to find that it was a brown falcon (I think a juvenile brown morph). Yay! Another local BOP to add to my list of sightings.

I played around with exposure and contrast in picnik to try and improve this photo - picnik seems to load faster now

Go Birdgirl! You nailed it well and truly, all the sweat was worth the effort. Me too , I have decided I need to find some BOP. They seem so exciting

They are amazing. And you can see them watching you. I've photographed 7 within 12 kms of my house and I know there are at least 2 more. I'm hooked!
