For those of you who use Bubbleshare for your photo hosting, you may have seen a message that it is closing in November.

This appears to be genuine, not a spammers hoax. It is on their "Home Page" as well as being posted to subscribers.

Any advice on which other photo hosting sites (preferably free ones) work well and are reliable?

Yeah, i have been using photobucket for years and it works good.
