At first I thought your Butcherbird was building a nest, but looking at the Chick, it is obvious that the adult is delivering a Stick Insect. Its camouflage obviously failed it.
.
Love the yellow tips on the beaks of the Oyster Catchers.

Gidday Trev, mate I have just arrived home from a long day out and about and when I read your post and looked at the pic I actually rubbed my eyes thinking I was tired..lol,got me a good one mate.
Jokes aside,nice pics mate,well done.
Burnett Heads is a nice place to mate,its been many years since I was there but I loved it.
Like everywhere else it has changed a lot Tassie. they will have a bridge over the creek finished before the end of the year. There is a big push for development down that way so I hope they leave some places for the birds.

Good spotting with the adult feeding the young
Thanks Birdgirl but the truth is that a young butcherbird about to be fed is very noisy. The cool part was finding the parent pulling the stick insect apart by wedging it in a fork of the tree. Pity I didn't find them a few seconds sooner.

Yep - I can personally attest to that. We've had one around here lately, who is most insistent about being fed from 5am onwards, for most of the day really... but he is kinda cute and brown and fluffy.

crikey Denis... you are so observant... the stick insect would have had me fooled if I was a bird (into thinking it was a stick!)
Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best

I have photographed them a few times, so knew what I was looking at - but only once I saw the young bird with its beak open.
I certainly thought it was building a nest with twigs at first.
