Crimson Finch (Neochima phaeton)

Crimson Finch on the Townsville Towncommon.
Rarely if ever seen on the Towncommon until a year or so back, now seen in small parties occasionally. The last couple of years have been wetter than average and these guys are a finch of the wet tropics so maybe that’s why they seem to have stayed. A great encounter with 8 of them yesterday.

Absolutely amazing photos of my favorite bird,I have only seen them in the wild once at a crock farm in Cairns,I wanted to get closer but my wife thought it might upset the 15ft male crock who lived in the enclosure!

Stunning shots Ed, the only time I have seen these in the wild was at Gregory downs in the Gulf....thx for sharing.

Beautiful shots Ed ....how lucky you are to have them up there and I love the way you have captured them doing what they do best in their natural habitat !

Wonderful shots. The finches really are gorgeous. I like the last shot - it looks as if they are having a conversation
