Just saw Smeedingo's post with a pair of Chestnut Teals. http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/forum/messages.cfm?threadid=F4848CA1-FC66-E815-75F218107C22690B
Makes an interesting contrast to the Mallard.
.
Stevehapp, apart from much smaller size, they are similar, but Chestnut Teal male has a white mark on its flanks, which is diagnostic. Useful point to remember when in the field.
.
Must be the season for Ducks at present.
.
Cheers
Denis
And got image wrong size - sorry!!!
HI Lyn
Yes it is a Pacific Black Duck. 500 Wide is the go.
Hey Dingo I think Lyn wanted to know what the one on the right was :)
Its some sort of feral.
HI Tassie
Sorry Lyn Looking but not seeing.
the one on the right sort of looks like a chestnut teal, but not.
It may be some kind of hybrid?
Nice Duck - we will probably have to wait until Denis spots this one for an id - it does not look like any of the ones in my book
Hi Lyn and everybody.
The bird on the right is a Mallard.
Raoul has a magnificent image on another thread on this forum, and some details of its history in Australia.
