Just like the Ibis I posted earlier,I struggle with the idea that we lable or categorize birds .Not to say, I don't do it myself. On the weekend I noticed, when my husband said something like: look over there! I responded: O yey, "just a duck", or with those guys:" Hmm, "just a Moorhen".
My attidude made me rethink, what we think is common now, might not be here tomorrow? Look at the Gang Gang I posted, everyone went: we haven't seen one, but only some years back there were large flocks.I guess, what I want to ask, should we pay more attention to the common bird now, before we regret later? It's nice and exciting to find a rare bird,but these ones are nice too. M-L

Great issue to raise, Araminta. I wonder if we need to focus on preserving & re-establishing habitat. That way we're more likely to preserve both common & uncommon birds (& other creatures) that live there or that would be likely to colonise the habitat.
