Eastern Koel (Eudynamys orientalis) both male and female, seen on the aerial of a house in my street in inner city Newcastle. I photographed the male out the door of my place.
Its a bit of a change to get a photo of a bird in my backyard!

Love the photos, I've only seen a koel once, and that was a female one. You can hear the bloody things going all day at home and school but i've never seen it. Well done.

No cobras in Oz, Steve, that's a Carpet Snake (python, Morelia spilota). Lots of Koel activity around but rarly in camera shot.
Hi Birdie, not sure why I looked up on taking the dog out the back door for an evening walk. TV was fine. Maybe having that a couple of meters above your head sends out a signal even in the dark??

I was pretty excited the other morning when I was walking to finally catch sight of a Male Koel. I hear them calling all the time but have only once managed to see one, and that was before i even knew what they were from this forum. Funnily enough it was about 20m from where I saw this one.
He was in someone's back garden in a tree and it was so hard to spot him even though his calling was piercing by the time I managed to see him. I was able to watch him calling for quite a while but of course.... I didn't have the camera with me did I!

Similar thing happened to me Birdie. I've only ever seen one which was last year and only saw my second one on the weekend. I was gettin ready for golf at about 5:30 where I could hear him loud and clear, I went out back where it was still dark and eventually saw him in the top branches of our Gum Tree, calling his head off waking up the entire neighbourhood. I got my camera out but to no avail, the shot is blurred... He was constantly calling until one of the neighbours woke upand started chucking things at him,. he didn't move from his spot, but he certainly shutup!
Well, I'm heading up to Port Stevens Fri, Sat and Sun, I'll see what pics I can get up there :)
