This morning noticed this fledgling NH Honeyeater in our yard. At first I was concerned but as I watched I realised he was having a ball - practicing skills and driving his worried parents mad. By this evening he was flying a few metres and it was amazing how quickly he got his act together.
First sighting.
Distinctive plumage already.
First perch on some irrigation pipe.
Very cute! You were lucky to see this little guy. I have only ever seen a New Holland Honeyeater once in our backyard.

Thanks Lyn never seen a fledgling NH Honeyeater before..
A real treasure Lyn. I've never seen a baby NH Honeyeater - I'm amazed that they develop their colours so early.

HI Lyn
Nice shots it is amazing how young they leave the nest.
Very nice shots, Lyn. How fortunate to have them visiting, and nesting in, your yard.

What a ripper little bird, good one Lyn.

Thanks all, glad you enjoyed seeing him. Yes - I am lucky to have a small group of NHH's right by my backdoor. It is great to observe their behaviour.
They are used to me with my camera, but hate the Wattlebirds with a vengeance and shriek their heads off at them. It was interesting to note that after watching this little guy, another fledgling appeared from the nest. Very timid and reluctant to leave home. So different from the first bird. Also - other than the parents, the extended family stand guard over the little ones too, shepherding them back towards the nesting area.
He is so cute - you are very lucky to see him. Keep us posted on how he's doing
