Lol, exact same reaction Birdie! So do you reside in Tasmania or just visiting over tehr Bygum if you don't mind me asking. They're really good photos again :)
Thanks for your feed back guys much appreciated
Sparrow your absolutely right it is the Crimson although there is very little difference the Green is a little duller in the yellow but all in good breeding color just now.
A Photo is only as good as the eyes that look at it.
Hi,the red on the breast gives it away, the wings are also pale yellow on the green they have a real green look hence the name, the yellows are usually very timid and hard to approach so you've done well to get such good photos.
I think they are the most stunning of the rosellas and no photo no matter how good could really do them justice!
Very nice shots of one of our most beautiful birds.
Very nice, Patrick. They are a gorgeous bird. I tried to get a few shots of this species when I was returning to Melbourne from SW QLD, but had no luck at all.
I'm fairly sure birdee is right, it is a crimson rosella, race adelaide (spelling may not be correct) and they live around the mid to lower Murray River. There are three races of crimson rosella that I know of and all of them have the blue patch under the face. Ray
Hey guys. First up Bygum, great shots as usual. The bird is actually the yellow form of the crimson rosella found predominately along the Murray river system.
In gisborne we get the red form, an hour or so north we get the yellow form (or pale headed) and a couple of hours to the west you will find the adelaide form.
Where were the shots taken.... from memory you said you had recently moved to vic (Wodonga rings a bell)
G'day berldo , You'll find that the Pale headed Rosella is a totally different Rosella altogether to the Yellows , Greens & Crimsons . Pale heads are not part of the blue cheeked rosella family , they have have have white cheeks and are blue from the breast own past the vent .
There seems to be a lot of confusion with the rosella there are eight verities of the family 1st the eastern then the pale-headed then the Northern next is the green which is dark yellow the Juv id olive green. next is the Western Red with white neck patch. Now comes the Crimson Red with blue neck patch. Now comes the yellow which I have posted and called it green with out thinking. the last is the Adelaide Red speckled with orange Juv is also olive with a tinge of red.
Hope that helps everyone thanks for all the feed back interesting.

Haha, didn't think you were from Tasmania Bygum. Well picked up Sparrow, I still can't tell the difference, even though i know what it is.
Now I'm confused. The crimson in Sydney is red and blue and its juvenile has green, not yellow on it. Green is confined to Tas and Bass Strait islands

Me thinks it's A yellow rosella . Green's have a green rump and green through the scalloping on the wings.
Great pics . :-)
