I know, the Ibis doesn't have a good "image", I do not understand "why" ? It is an Australian native bird , and it's not his fault we turned him into what he has become, an " opportunist", to me the Ibis is still a majestic and beautiful bird. When I can see them circle in large numbers in the scy above, they are simply devine. On the weekend I saw some roosting in their nest, you be the judge. What do you think? A pest, or beautiful birds? M-L
Sorry, " sky", M-L English is hard, LOL

My understanding is that the sacred ibis is called a pest in Australia because it
- hangs around waiting for food handouts from individuals of the species Homo sapiens
- frequents garbage dumps established & replenished, again by individuals but also collectives of the species Homo sapiens
I'd therefore have to argue that the sacred ibis is not the ugly or pest part of this equation.
They are still beautiful birds. How can they help what they naturally do?
Cheers, Owen.
Yes, when you see them away from the towns with the rubbish tips they are such beautiful stately birds, and in flight they are spectacular. I like watching them flying in a 'V' formation, huge groups of them sometimes. And, Araminta, English may be 'hard', but I admire you for being so fluent and at home in a language not your native one - wish I could speak another language! Guess it's a bit late to start now.

Thanks Meave, NOTHING in life is too late to do.(unless you want to join a circus and swing on a trapeze?)You can do it, easy! M-L

Great shots ML. We watch the Ibis's fly over our home every morning and night. Even if they are a misunderstood bird they still are very graceful and a joy to watch. Meave you are never to old to start to learn anything new, you just have to be willing to learn.
Beautiful, especially when flying. And funny when stealing from the Chinese gardens in darling harbour to make their nests near the convention centre
