Hi Missmercy
Some people can only see half of your photos.
This forum really can only cope with photos 500 pixels wide.
.
Nice photo of a Grey Currawong there. Not a typical inner city bird at all, I would have thought. But good photo.
.
George, thanks for fixing up the formatting (codes).

Cheers

Lovely collection. We get woken in the morning by currawongs in North Melbourne so it looks like they've moved intp the inner city. Keep your eyes out for the white plumed honey eaters, they love the bottle brushes.
Sorry about the lack of image codes - I haven't moved the first two BTW, I'll have another go and post the links to smaller images again, fingers crossed.
If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Never had to use codes on other forums to post before and am a Mac use so the instructions (click right to get properties) are not applicable to my OS.
Also I am aware I posted the same image twice accidentally in the above post.
Wish I'd taken my camera for a dog walk this morning as there were a pair of Slender Billed Eastern Corella's at Princes Park this morning - haven't seen them there before. I'm also waiting for the return of the Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoo's that frequent a few big trees in the park and the nearby Melbourne General Cemetery.
Lovely photos of beautiful birds. How lucky you are to have them in the inner city!
I've never seen a red-rumped parrot (I think that's what your photo is of?), but I've been told that a few are hanging around my boyfriend's parents' house... time to visit the in-laws!
Thanks Andy, those are Red Rumped Grass Parrots and there are quite a few of them in Princes Park, though the renovation of Carlton's headquarters and oval seems to have moved them from their regular spot right in front of it to further round Princes Park near the Cemetery West road & Royal Parade interesection.
There are also quite a few Red Rumped parrots at Fairfield Park, just to the west of the boathouse at the start of one of the walking tracks.
My husband and I have been watching these delightful little parrots for many years.
It never ceases to amaze me what array of birds we get to see this close to town.
So that's where the Royal Park corellas have gone, crossed Royal Parade to escape the noisy miners that were terrorising them. Missmercy, you might want to check out the little wetland the other side of the zoo near the old Commonwealth Games village. If you want to see black cockatoos there are some anging out over at Brimbank Park at the moment.
Hi xjjohnno, I think the Corella's might have gone somewhere else too as I'm a daily park walker (usually two or three times with my dog) and I've only seen one pair of them yesterday for the first time and again today in a different spot - of course I don't know if they are the SAME pair.
I have been meaning to have a look at that little wetland you mentioned, might take the dog down there for an extended walk when the rain clears later this week.
I think if I wait I will see the Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoos again as they seem to have been coming and going from this area for three or four years now. The first time I saw them (there are about 30 of them) they were in Northcote near my friends old house which was opposite Merry Creek, perhaps the drought has moved them closer to the city.
Right now I'm wishing I was in your part of the world, Missmercy! Taking the dog (well behaved and on a lead and not scaring birds and not stamping on their habitat, of course) for an extended walk in order to see Red-rumped Parrots and Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos sounds like an absolutely perfect activity. Of course, I take the dog for a bird-finding walk every day, but a Red-rumped Parrot? I wish!
Off-topic - what kind of dog to you have? If you reply to this, maybe post it in the "social" section, so that the "best photos" section remains predominantly that. I think forum members are fine with non-birdy topics being discussed in the social section.
Back on topic - would love to see any photos you take at the wetlands.
Whoops, forgot to link them, here they are:

Think I know what I did wrong after re-reading again the instructions, so here goes again:
If by chance I don't get this right, some help would be very much appreciated.
FINALLY GOT IT RIGHT - YAY!
