Wanda, great photos. We have had a few kingfishers in our forest lately - but never when the camera has been at hand. Probably due to the explosion in frogs since we had all this rain.
Nice catches Wanda, the Flu catcher is a nice looking bird hey? I have never seen one with the cresty bit standing up like that it looks cool.
Edward we have had an explosion of frogs too with all the wet... it is so lovely to have real frogs around instead of those disgusting cane toads everywhere. I have been concerned actually that with the rivers flowing into Vic would that mean that the toads will be able to migrate more easily?
Thanks Edward and Birdie. Edward hope you are not having any problems with the floods. You two are lucky with all the frogs, I really love frogs and like you said Birdie much better than those cane toads.
LOL just re read my post .... flu catcher... sometimes typos are hilarious! Yes I love frogs too, found a great barred frog at work the other day , it had been washed down a pathway and caught in a corner by the heavy rain. It was exciting to see one I have never seen before. Also rescued another one that was freaking all the girls at work out as it got inside!!! It was smaller but I am not sure what type. They thought I was mad as I took a pic of the great barred on my phone.... he just looked like a pile of mud in the corner.
Flooding is generally not a problem for us as we sit on top of a hill at 600m above sea level (and at least 50m above the surrounding plains). We did however lose 10-20 trees in the storm.
(Sorry Wanda for taking this off topic) We have had frogs on the front verandah for the first time in the last few weeks, we think they have been trying to find somewhere dry :)
This week alone we have seen the brown tree frog, pobblebonk, spotted marsh frog, plains froglet and common froglet. We are continally relocating them whenever we work in the garden.
Apart from being great to see the frogs, its also nice as its bringing in a few differen birds for us (cormorants, kingfishers and herons).
Thanks Cath and Shane. Edward I do not mind at all you talking about frogs. Wow what a variety you have seen and yes I agree although it is good to see all the frogs it does bring in more birds. I like the pobblebonk and the sound it makes. Also glad to hear that you are not affected by floods.
Hmmmm .... dare I say it Edward but those in Toowoomba probably thought the same thing with regards to floods :'(
But glad that you are OK.
If you guys are interested in frogs and hope you don't mind Wanda... here is my Great Barred Frog
Back to the topic Wanda.... this morning I was lucky enough to come across a family of four kingfishers two youngsters crying for food near the rainforest where I walk in the mornings. they flitted along the powerlines and forest edge and followed me for a while. Very cute, pity I didn't have a camera.
(apologies Wanda)
Birdie, that is a strange looking frog - its legs don't look big enough for its body.
I have included a couple of frogs from our place. Plains froglet (on the old bathtub)
Wow great shots Edward. Why don't you repost them under a new thread I started in social... "frog lovers"? I'd love to see everyone's pics from their garden frogs.
Ironic, couple of weeks ago we got some heavy rain here and I was exploring the creek for frogs, birds and cicadas (I like them to) I think I found the nest of a white backed swallow or a kingfisher in the bank. I am not certain if it is actually a nest but along that bank there are severall holes which could be a colony. Nice pic's by the way!
nice pics Wanda , especially the Kingfisher .

Thanks Narly, when I went down the paddock later on there were 3 down there, they are a beautiful bird.
