Koel alert

Well they just keep on coming in my little over the fence corner. I was startled by loud squawks and protests so naturally I flew outside with my camera and high up in a tree on the other side of the creek I spotted a female koel ( I had heard her earlier quite a few times), and the reason for the protest was the resident figbird . Very obligingly the koel eventually flew down into my garden and then I spotted the reason for mummy figbird's distress.

Wow Birdie, your yard really is coming to life isn't it with catbirds, koels, white goshawks. You really are lucky! Lovely photos with the young koel, well done, usually they're to high in the trees for me to get a good shot.

hi Amateur, yes I have been fortunate lately. the young bird was actually a figbird and the mother was very defensive with the koel in the same tree.

Cool birds aren't they. Good work getting the fig bird shots. I have a not so good shot of a figbird keeping a very close eye on a female Koel in my yard as well. thanks for posting.

Thanks Bushy and Guzzi, I was so lucky to find her after moaning to you that I never saw any Bushy!!
The figbird make quite a noise with the Koel around.

Well caught Trev - how the heck did you manage to be in place for that shot? :)

Wouldn't want that angry figbird coming after me like that!!

Thanks for posting

It sure is Goshawk. This morning I got to within 4 feet from a female Whipbird . She was calling to her mate over the fence. and the sound was amazing at such close range on a still morning. I could even hear (finally) the series of notes he uses before he stretched the call into the whip. But do you think I could get a snap of that female? No way. They are the most elusive little birds I have come across. She just kept hiding behind the leaves all the time. :(

Then she flew away just as I thought I had her.

You gotta love the "relaxation" you get from bird photography Birdie. It would drive me nuts if I wasn't already.
