After spending many minutes trying to figure out where the shrill sharp whistle was coming from, my 8 year old daughter spotted this lyrebird wandering round my laundry door.

Did it have an interesting repertoire of calls or was it just making one noise, love the lyrebirds, such beaautiful mimicry. Nice photo, thanks for sharing Tif, lucky to have one wandering round your backyard.
OH wait, is a lyrebird hen a lyrebird? Sorry just getting a little confused...
It was a superb Lyrebird, but a female. Sorry for the confusion :) She didn't have the lovely scroll tail that the male one has.
She was only making the one call but I have a video of them somewhere, making a huge variety of calls including a whip bird and magpie carolling. I have also heard one doing a car alarm sound. I meant to do some research on the call she was making to see if maybe it was an alarm or maybe a call to chicks or a mate.
First time it has been that close to the house though :)
There's that green glow of envy coming from my place again. Well done Tiffany and thanks for sharing.

She is lovely, you are very lucky to see that species so close.
Looks as though you have mastered that new camera?
I am finding it a steep learning curve and more than afew times I have forgotten the appropriate aperture/shutter/fstop settings for the light and distance I am from the subject, but I am enjoying it very much!
