I visited the nankeen kestrels yesterday with 2 spare batteries - lucky because the one in the camera went flat after about 5 shots! I was very lucky to get the pair, but had no luck with flight shots this time

Nankeen kestrels
Great series Birdgirl, are they juveniles in your area? or did you just happen upon them on your walk (incredibly lucky if you did) I like the shot from underneath and the one where his head is turned to look at you ..really captures the colours of his wing beautifully.
If you don't mind me asking what gear do you use? ...just wondering if you were close to the NK for the underneath shot of if you have a zoom lens.
Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best
Nice series of shots birdgirl, clear blue skies make a terrific background.
Pretty birds. Nice shots Birdgirl

HI Birdgirl
Very nice shots so lucky to have two together did you look for there nest near by.
Thanks everyone
Heva1 - I have a Panasonic Lumix fx50 with a 35-420 zoom + I had the 1.7x teleconversion lens on, boosting it up to 712. The birds were fairly high up in a gum tree.
smeedingo2 - I haven't seen their nest, but will definitely look for it.
Hi Birdgirl... great camera gear (combined with good birding/photographing skills of course!) You mentioned about batteries getting flat... I just got a new lens with IS and find it really chews through my batteries, in the instructions it says to turn off IS when you have on a tripod to save on battery... just wondering if you/anyone else turns thiers off when camera is on a monopod... and wheather it makes a differnece to pics.. (just seeing if someone has already been a crash test dummy for this query!!)

great shots birdie girl...
your photos are getting heaps good.
well done.
Thanks everyone. Heva1 - I don't use a tripod or monopod because I find that I never have the chance to set up any shots - the birds are there for a second and always on the move. That is probably why my shots are never sharp enough for me
They are just gorgeous photos, I love the 4th one.
