Nice series of shots, tarkineus. Most unusual for them to allow such a close approach. Thanks for sharing. Try uploading photos at 500 x 300 pixels.

Thanks George ... this is my first post to this forum and I seem to have made an aweful mess of it with apparently no way to edit. I will try your suggestion and upload at 500 x 300 for my next thread. The partially hidden images in the first thread are fully displayed by right clicking, choose "View Image".
And yes, I was lucky to get so close. I can only assume that they didn't notice me, as in relation to them the sun was directly behind me.
Thanks again Birdgirl, the camera is a DSLR Olympus E-520 4/3rds system with in-body IS. The lens is an Olympus Zuiko *70-300mm (*140-600mm 35mm equiv.) All images shot at 600mm. http://www.dpreview.com/news/0805/08051301olympusE520.asp
Well, I'll be glad when this dam rain stops, it's supposed to continue 'til next Wednesday, although I shouldn't say that!

These are beautiful sharp photos. I would love to see a bird like that in real life. What camera are you using?
