Orange Botanic Garden- Part 2

I finally got back to the Garden today, I haven't been there since the 31st because it's been raining.
The Grebe's have two babies now! They look like they are a few weeks old. I wonder if they'd already hatched last time I was there but I didn't see them. Do they hide under their parents wings? Today when a duck swam past one got spooked and tried to climb under the parents wing but it was too big to fit.

And I saw this Red-browed Finch too:

The last one is a good shot... I am told they are hard to get to sit still for you,,, don't think I have ever seen one actually.

Love those red browed finches.... speaking of hard to get standing still LOL

Thanks.
These grebes are quite used to people but they are always very aware of where you are and try to stay a certain distance away.
I work in Orange only 5 mins from the Garden so I spend my lunch breaks there taking photos of birds.

Hi Perthwings. We had snow a couple of times this winter and it got down to minus five. We've had alot of rain this year too, the dams are all full again which we haven't seen since 2001 and the birds are loving it.

I like the baby grebes - I saw some last year. I'll keep an eye out for some more

Wow anyone would think it was Spring with all those babies and nests LOL Great catches

That scrawny little grebe is very cute. Seeing that nest makes me think, I have been passing a nest every day on my walk and it looks just like that one, and I thought it was a butcher bird sitting in it, but couldn't make her out clearly. Today as we walked past my daughter got swooped a few meters along by a maggie, so maybe it was his nest! Interesting that nothing has bothered me before and I walk past it every day, but she was on her scooter and it scared the living daylights out of her!!
