Rainbow Bee-Eaters

I was delighted when we moved to this house a year ago to find Rainbow BE in the reserve at the back. They have been back for a while this year and I have a hidey hole where I can watch them and get a few photos but as I have to wear protective clothing to stop the sandflies from carrying me away I don't get out there very often but did make the effort yesterday.

They are really beautiful. I have only seen one once, on a river bank

Beautiful Jeanne. I know what you mean about the sandflies....we get midgee things and I get eaten alive in the evenings . I always forget the insect stuff till it is too late!

Sandflies etc are just there to test ya. A bit of insect repellent ought to do it. When I go spotlighting I bathe in mortein and the mozzies still want to have a go. LOL Keep up the good work with those Bee-eaters. :)

Thanks for the comments.

The sandflies/midges drive me mad, they seem to be around for 9 months of the year and even though I mostly remember to cover up I have red itchy spots all over me. None of the "remedies/potions" that I have read about seem to prevent them from biting me.
