Spent a few weeks recently in Kakadu and the Douglas-Daly region in the NT and was really lucky to have a great experience watching a Rainbow Pitta foraging in the overflow of the Douglas River. Not a bird that is seen all that often. I hope you enjoy the photos:

Rainbow Pitta
Wow mate, very very nice. I have never seen one so thanks heaps for sharing.
Nice shots, rjwaring. Am I right in saying this is a species which inhabits the rainforest floor, hence making it difficult to see?
Hi woko, not quite rainforest where we were but tropical pandanas trees, and yes, still hard to see, but beautiful once you do.

Great shots of a very nice looking bird. I have looked for them a couple of times in Lamington but I never found them.
Cheers, Owen.
Thanks for the information on the habitat, rjwaring.
I saw a couple out at Howard Springs (Darwin) and wish I had managed a shot as good as yours. They are a gorgeous species.

Very nice pic's rjwaring.
Always seen then in my field guide and wished they lived around here. I'm jealous, they look an amazing little bird.
Nice shots rjwaring.
thanks for the comments. Again like so many birds in the top end, we thought we'd see more and I was very glad I managed such good views of this one, and only, Pitta.
