At the moment I have Young birds absolutely everywhere. It is fascinating to see how they change colours, when they turn into adults. Here is one more example, the Baby Red-browed without the brow, but just starting tocome through.
Adult :
Young, brow not formed yet:
and one more, hard to get a good photo, as she was hiding the young well.
enjoy, M-L
Thanks for sharing.
Great photos, I know how hard it can be when they're so hidden in amongst the foliage! I mostly accept defeat without trying and just enjoy watching them now.
I've noticed how many ID posts are questions relating to juveniles - it's certainly a confusing time of year to be an amateur birder!
We have lots of Goldfinch babies around at present - which is a little bittersweet being an introduced species... Unfortunately, no native finches where I am... so I'm resigned to accepting our Greenfinches and Goldfinches instead as they're here to stay anyway...
Enjoy your finches that are both beautiful and native :)
Cheers,
Scott.
It seems to have been a great breeding year in most places. Good rains producing all sorts of tucker, I suspect, are behind it. It's really great to see so many photos of young ones as they can be difficult to identify.
Thanks for posting the young red-browed firetail, Araminta.
