They seem to display the same behaviour as Rainbows. I think Owen is correct - Christidis and Boles have lumped them in with Rainbow Lorikeet and the other list (name escapes me) has them as a separate species. Nice work.
This is a quote from The Slater Field Guide to Australian Birds under the heading Rainbow Lorikeets:- "Two Forms occur: eastern form, also occurs as escapee in south-west with red breast and yellow-green collar; and red-collared form from northern Australia with orange breast and collar"
Wow, they are very similar aren't they. I'd have certainly made the same mistake in identifying them.
Great shots. Apparently they have been merged with Rainbows but I don't know for sure. Still interesting to see the difference.
