Red-rumped Parrot (Psephotus haematonotus) This male was with his partner tearing up the grass on the footy oval and it was interesting to watch them.
Very Nice, I have not had the pleasure of meeting one of these.

these guys are quite a popular sight now in penrith, lovely bird...
if your happy when your birding, flap your wings.
Thanks. Interesting to know they are more common in Penrith now. I used to live not too far from Penrith and they were not at all common.
Cheers, Owen.
That's really nice clear shot - mostly they seem to hide in the shade and have their wings over the red bit that gives them their name. Didn't the colours come out so well?

Nice shot Owen, the colours are showing nicely.
Thanks. The red rump doesn't always show and they are almost invisible from a distance.
That's a lovely sharp shot. We have lots around here
I often see red-rumps eating in the grass on naturestrips during the summer. I love how close you can get to them before they fly away
Ninox
Ahh! isn't nature wonderful to provide such beautifully coloured birds for our enjoyment.

I love these parrots. They have nice calls too and are tame. Thanks for comments.
