On wednesday I went to Royal Park in Parkville near Melbourne city and it was swarming with parrots, including Rainbow, Musk and Little Lorikeets (possibly a Scaly-breasted Lorikeet heard), Red-rumped parrots and Galahs.
The day before I went to a lake at sportsgrounds and saw a group of Cattle Egrets.
The Cattle Egrets at the lake near the sportsgrounds, distinguishable by the buff on head and pink on bill
Red Wattlebird at Royal Park
Galah, one of a massive flock
Musk Lorikeet
The best Little Lorikeet shot. Not great but a good sighting.
Other birds I saw were:
Noisy Miner
Superb Fairy Wren
White-plumed Honeyeater
Magpie
Little Raven
Magpie Lark
Red-rumped Parrot
Little Wattlebird
Scaly-breasted Lorikeet (possibly heard)
Cheers, Owen.
Great shots Owen! I have never seen the little Lorikeet r the Musk. We get heaps of cattle egrets here , the wet paddocks are always full of them ..I love it when they are in breeding plumage..very colourful.

Thanks Birdie. You are in their range so keep a lookout for them especially when the gums are in flower.
Cheers, Owen.
Some great shots, little lorikeets are hard they never seem to come out of the foliage for long,I have spent hours (until my neck ached)trying to get a decent photo, love the musk lorikeet seems to be looking you right in the eye.
Very nice, Owen. I have yet to visit the place with my camera. Although Musk Lorikeets are very common, I have yet to find one that co-operates and poses out in the open like yours. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. George I recommend you pick a nice fine day and get down to Royal Park especially at the northern end in the golf course because it is alive with lorikeets and the musk Lorikeets are quite co-operative hanging and perching out on the edge of the trees.
Cheers, Owen.
Nice pic's Owen. Love the musk and the Cattle egrets. Those Cattle egrets are one of my favorites when in breeding colors.
Thanks reckless. The egrets are hard to miss in breeding colours but hard to tell apart from other egrets in the winter time.
Cheers, Owen.
What a grat day you had! You are so lucky to see the little lorikeet. I have seen scalies and musks, but not littles
Great Musk Lorikeet shot! :)
I'm just down the road from Royal Park and favour the areas around the Children's Hospital.
Around the zoo you'll come across bell birds. A recent spotting with pics as proof were some spotted pardalotes, my first sighting of them at Royal Park. Some time soon there's a good chance a pair of long billed corellas will pop by and favour that billabong area near Flemington Road. Eastern rosellas have been sighted also recently, likely spots to find them are the casuarina groves.
gr8 musk shot, has a cute face.
if your happy when your birding, flap your wings.
