Beautiful photo Nightowl! I have never found one during the day, but I noticed many people have. Please tell me, how did you see it? What made you look for it, where you did? We had one hunting from our roof for years, we could get very close to it at night, it wasn't shy.But then, ( I told the story before) it sat on the door step one day, and was sick, and I took it to the vet.Unfortunately had to be put down. I would like to see one again!
Perhaps I have been lucky Araminta.
I think rather that there are a few Tawny Frogmouths to be seen in my area.
I live in Mosman Bay where there are a number of bushy reserves such as Reid Park, Harnett Park and the Cremorne Peninsula Reserve. I have found Tawny Frogmouths in all three areas at different times.
If they had not been perched so close to the track I probably would not have noticed them. They were really quite conspicuous.
If you are in the Sydney Area, you could visit Mosman Bay on the North Shore and take the track towards Cremorne Point. There’s every chance you will spot one or two close to the track.
Sad story though about the one which hunted from your Roof.
Hope you see another one soon.
