Tooth-billed Bowerbird

Hi all, long time no post……hope I can remember how….

Here are a few shots of a Tooth-billed Bowerbird calling, taken up at Birthday Creek Paluma last weekend, this guy is possibly the most photographed TBB in OZ as his ‘stage’, a cleared area with a area of bright green leaves at the center, is right next to the car parking area at Birthday Creek.

Come on Ed... square bracket img then paste then [/img and close ..... remember ???

Wow they are beautiful.... and I just had a look at your Owls .....You have to post them for us, there has been a lot of discussion on owls here lately. Yours are just beautifully taken.

Regarding the bowerbird stuff. Maybe you know something about the Green catbirds? Are they ever known to hiss like a bowerbird? I have two that appear to be doing it just after dusk every night at the moment.

cheers and thanks for these great shots

Ed... do you have any experience with Catbirds? I can't find anyone who knows anything. I have two families of nesting Catbirds, one on my walk and one at the rear of my garden and in the creek area over the fence. Would just love to know if they hiss or not.
Cheers

hi Birdie, not really up on Catbirds, our (Spotted) is a seperate species to yours (Green), but a very early version of Graham Pizzey, Field Guide to the birds of Oz says "Also plaintive hissing notes" so maybe it is the Catbirds.

/ed did you see the golden bower bird when you was in paluma really need another trip up there

yes, Golden Bowerbird has a bower near the TBB 'stage', I don't recommend the Paluma Dam road unless you have a 4x4, the trip in and out in my i30 was a bit 'hairy'.

How nice to see you posting again, ed. Great set of shots. I think it this species that we saw out the back o' Cairns a few years ago. They have a weird call, don't they ?

Cheers,

George, 'weird' is an understatment !! but NQ would be a sadder place without it...
