bustad

we have maybe 50 bustads on our property they don't seem to leave but its mating time again and the males are so splendid in full mating mode

Gidday Joanneh, that is a top shot. I believe the number that you are seeing, that is in line with what I have been seeing from Dysart through to Clermont. Their numbers are definately increasing and that is great news for a species that is considered threatened.
I have read reports where they say approx 100 years ago they were common in flocks of up to 100 birds.
I have not seen that but I have seen them in flocks of approx 20-30.
Thanks again for sharing that shot it is not often that we get to see the males in all their splendor.

Hi Joanneh
You are so lucky to have Bustards, and lots of them as well.
Great photo.
Cheers

Absolutely awesome i've never even seen a shot like this before. Well done indeed, and as Denis said you are very very lucky to have these birds in your area and in large numbers. Thanks for posting.
