The kookaburras seem quite shy around my place, but this one sat still long enough for me to manage to get a reasonable photo. Then of course it flew away just as I was about to take a superb photo.

Then I finally got a few decent photos of a superb fairy, sitting among the weeds.

Good shots mate, the wrens are hard little buggers to get hey?
Yeah they are. They seem to like blackberry patches around my place (which is a bit of a worry because I'm trying to rip the blackberries out).

Nice bunch of pics, soakes. I wish we still had Superb Fairy-wrens in our neighbourhood because it is my favourite species. Unfortunately, our council poisoned the blackberries in which the wrens lived before alternative vegetation was planted. The result was no place for the poor little buggers to hide and therefore local extinction. I would suggest that if you would like them to stick around, provide alternative accommodation for them before you pull out all the blackberries. Thanks for sharing your pics.

Thanks George, yes I am well aware of that. Fortunately there are loads of weeds around my place... but eventually I will be planting ferns, trees and shrubs that can be used by the native fauna... as I slowly but surel rip tose disgusting blackberries out!

The wrens are incredibly hard to catch - well done. Yesterday I saw a heap of them really close - when I didn't have my camera
HI Soakes
Sorry I missed this one they are little buggers to get nice shots.
Hi soakes, you are lucky to have both kookas and wrens so near at hand and I can understand you wanting to get rid of those blackberry bushes. I'm sure you'll be able to provide the right accommodation to keep them coming back when you'll be able to get the perfect shot.

I was visiting a friend last year who lives in the bush with a passionfruit vine overhanging his veranda. Fairy Wrens flitted all about as tame as city seagulls and I didn't have my camera. In that moment and without realising it, I had become a birder.
