This Darter tried for a good 5 minutes to swallow this fish, eventually giving up.

Unreal shot Ed, I think ol mate has bitten off a bit more than he can handle.
Is that fish a Sooty or Bass?
Unfortunatly it is a tilapia (pest), and even if, and I think the Darter did kill it, they are a mouth breeder and the young are able to survive even long periods out of the water (in the mouth), any fish caught cannot by law be returned to the water and I think is supposed be buried a distance from the water, although edible and they are eaten in many place it is against the law to have one in your possesion in Queensland. I will post shots taken today of a more successful capture, same place, maybe the same bird.

Thanks Ed, Tilapia, yes mate I know of them, I never gave them a thought to be honest.
The Tilapia is in the same league as the Europeaan Carp found down south.
