I thought I would post this photo that I took this afternoon as it is a good example of the tongue of the Lorikeet for anyone who has not seen one.

What a great shot, Birdie. I would like to show it to the children at my school. We have lorikeets come to feed from trees in our courtyards every spring.

Hi Sue
I would be happy to send you the full photo of it if you needed it. I cropped it down so that people could see that tongue!!!
If ever you want anything for your students I for one would be happy to help. I love to get kids interested in nature.

Thanks everyone, this bird was easy to shoot as it was really engrossed in getting that nectar and so was his mate. They were oblivious of my presence below them with my long zoom lens! :)
This was in my friend's garden and shooting over the fence to her neighbour's place. It's is the garden where I previously shot the Top Knot and the Black cockies and now she tells me that the king parrots raid this grevillea regularly.
I have resolved to always take my camera when I visit her !
it really shows the importance of planting the right species for the birds and having plenty of trees is one of the big attractions of Buderim her on the coast.
If the developers had their way we would be a void I think

Nice photo Birdie. The tongue is very long and mobile. I'll have to try and get a photo like that
Thats brilliant Birdie, so sharp and colourful.
One of the nicest pics I've seen of a Lori.
The detail is immaculate, I'd be proud of that one.

Thanks AL, that garden is great for birds, I was there the other day and although I had stated here that I would never go back without a camera, sure enough I was there last week, heaps of beautiful birds but no camera!
All the neighbours have planted big fruiting trees and nectar laden stuff so the whole area is a honey trap for them!
Cheers
