Nice ones Owen1. I like the wren too. Looks like its doing some Irish dancing.
I was born to live and I live to die.
thanks for the great comments everyone. wrens are real characters aren't they. this one wouln'd stop hovering and pecking the car mirror.
the butcherbird was eating his prey right in the opening of the leaves so i could get a clear shot. he was one of the tamest butcherbirds i have seen too.
Cheers, Owen.
They are all tame around here Owen..... I can hand feed ( should I want to that is) all the Pied Butcher birds around the neighbourhood.
Hey Owen, yesterday I spoke to a woman whose garden backs onto the walkway/wildlife corridor where I walk every day. I was poking around with a camera looking for the family of catbirds there. She was saying that she feeds the whole family, and that if she doesn't put feed out then the adult catbirds jump at her windows with their feet!! Apparently they are thieves too and steal the food she leaves out for the local possum if she is not careful. Funny how when I go after them they instantly disappear into the greenery.... I obviously don't have the right equipment ( food that is).

Birdie, we used to get stacks of birds, including catbirds and satin bowerbirds at our old property out in rural sydney and some of the birds got quite tame but we didn't feed them because the property backed onto bushland and there was plenty for them. i really miss our old property because urban melbourne isn't too productive. i used to occasionally feed the local magpies on mincemeat but then we got our dog and she got scared of them, although we taught her not to chase the birds away.
Cheers, Owen.
Hi Owen, what you said there, makes me a bit sad,( contrary to what some people on the forum think,I have a very soft heart.)I can understand why you miss the bushland.I have the Bunyip State Park out the back. What Melbourne suburb do you live in? If you're close to us, you could come up one day?! ( The only problem would be, how to organize it, may be you shouldn't give out any details on line?) Still, it would be nice,

Great photos Owen, love the last one of the wren landing on the mirror, what a beauty!
What a great collection of birds. I love the one of the butcherbird with its caterpillar and the one of the joyful wren. I also really like photos of birds that are more than just portraits - that show something unusual, or behviour, feeding etc
thanks wanda and birdgirl.
i love watching the behaviour and habits of the birds as well
Cheers, Owen.
