I'll have to sit this one out as I've not yet seen any I can take photos of. But I will enjoy looking at everyone else's. Very nice karlbob. His bill looks very shiny.
I took these some time ago, they nested high in a tree that was a fair distance away, and I only had a 300mm lens. Meaning, I had to give them a big crop. Hope you will enjoy them.
(I have about 20 more, haha, I could bore you to death with them)
Here is just a couple of ours, not as close as the previous. The above shots are great, love the juveniles they are so cute. Our shots are of the Royal and the Yellow billed Spoonbill. First Royal is in breeding plumage.
I've had a few great sessions with both species and White-necked Heron(s) all in the same pond two winters ago. Read it on my blog if you're interested.
Royal Spoonbill. I went out last weekend to get a pic of one of these but came home empty handed. But going through and organising some old pics I realised I had a spoonbill from a trip to New Zealand in 2011. So not exactly backyard or even local, but certainly close enough ;)
There are some lovely images here, I will have to check about yellow spoonbills, I have only come across the Royals. i love the reflections in your shot Nahar and M-l you were fortunate to see nesting ones I am guessing you were somewhere like the WTP .
Karl..... your one of my favourite Spoony is just great. Maybe with the rains refilling his waterhole we will see them for a while yet
Or maybe as the waterholes fill up inland they will all take off? not sure.
Here's mine from last week

Great choice. I really enjoyed looking at the photos above, especially of the babies, which I haven't seen before.

I have not seen the Yellow Billed as yet but the Royal Spoonbill is still posing for shots, often with the Intermediate Egret.
Akos, my favourite is your stunning photo of the Yellow Billed Spoonbill with those water droplets.
Just to add to the variety of wonderful images
Absolutely beautiful Nahar
