First up - massive apologies! I just realised that I am a day late in setting up the new Bird of the Week... I have some big deadlines here at BIBY looming so I may take some prodding over the next couple of months - apologies in advance
OK this theme might be controversial - but they are out there so why not show photos of them - the introduced birds of Australia...
Young Starling, I like the "old man eyebrows" appearance. As Holly said a controversial subject, but like it or not, I have them in my back yard (at least for this and maybe next year). It was also one of the few birds I can get really close to, this one I think was pretending I could not see it. Adults too scittish.

Spotted Doves are almost daily visitors here even though I try and try to get them to move on (including interupting breeding/nesting pairs)
Well i have to many pics for this one

Hey Shorty, you beat me to it, I only have these ones of Sparrows.
BTW, your photos are outstanding

Thanks M-L, you were beaten by three people. Since i have been here you are always first, you must be slipping Holly might have slowed you down on this one?

I know Shorty, , my PC isn't working at home, so I have to walk down the drive to the work PC. We live in the country, nothing works the way it should, we don't even have mobile reception.

Good for you, Cassie. Several times spotted turtle doves have tried to become established at my place but they've been driven off by other birds, I suspect. If, God forbid, they ever gain a claw-hold they'll certainly thwart my hopes of bronzewings & peaceful doves moving in. The price of a healthy environment is eternal vigilance.
Hi attached are two photos one of a starling the other a flock of pidgeons, they are great to watch in flight and they are homing pidgeons, so don't appear to be out every day.
Cheers Diane
Now here is an “introduced species” I find occasionally around my garden. He (I think it’s a male?) seems rather “feral”. I often think about trapping him, I think he also loves to “fly”. So he might fly to some warmer place to escape our cold winter? I’m sure he will return. Should I stop feeding him? I don’t think he will lay any eggs or multiply., I'll let him hang around the garden.
M-L
Nice photo of that species...I have heard however that they have some odd habits and can be very messy!!! I also believe that if you are into feeding this species they can be big eaters......I have also heard that they train up well, and can be trained to do some of the less favourable habits of this species.......I suggest you keep this specimen and keep me upto date with the venture

Thanks for your advice Teresa. I try to restrict the feeding as that species doesn't live for long if you overfeed them. He also tends to turn to digging up the garden when he gets bored, so walking him helps. He does have some odd habits, from time to time he scratches on my door, no idea what he wants though? Should I build a Kennel for him outside?
M-L
I am led to believe they do like to have a personal space of their own outside, a fenced run added to the shed opps i mean kennel will i believe eleviate the scratching at the door,I too have a similar species and he regulary dresses up as a nurse.......odd creatures but somehow, they can be comforting to have around........not unlike the favourite ugg boots ! Enjoy your evening !

I considered commenting on posts 10-14 but decided that I shouldn't as I hope to get to Victoria sometime this year and have yet to ask Araminta to allow me into her backyard

I think we are all aware (or should be) of these introduced invadors.
