This week I thought we would go dark. The theme is 'nocturnal novelties' - so that could be noctunal birds, night time shots or even nocturnal birds during the day, I will leave it up to interpretation...

Juvenile White Headed Stilt
I don't have many photographs of nocturnal birds at all. I took this photograph in 2013 in Cape York and just assumed it was a Tawny Frogmouth but have since found out that there are actually three different species of Frogmoth, Tawny, Marbled and Papuan.
Also Cape York is habitat for all three and this bird was smaller than all the Tawny Frogmouths that I have seen.
