My school is deciding on making a bird-friendly garden. We are also going to participate in PlanetArk's National Tree Day on the 31st of July. Are there any specific plants/trees recommended to be planted in order to attract native birds? The birds that are currently residing and the school are mainly opportunists like the Australian Raven, Australian Magpie, Rainbow Lorikeets, Pied Currawong, White Ibis, lots of Noisy Miners and bountiful of Rock Doves. Would there be any chances for smaller birds like wrens, finches and small honeyeaters to stay at our school if we plant plenty of scrubs and bushes, despite the aggressive species that have already resided here?
You have a good chance if you can get some dense shrubs growing. It will take time though.
On the Birds in Backyards website, under Bird-friendly Spaces we have guidelines for enhancing urban bird habitat - there is one there for schools :)
Where abouts are you? We may be able to suggest some suitable locally native plants.

Indeed, The guidelines are very helpful! Thanks Holly!
The school is located in Petersham, Fort Street High School. We have quite a lot of Eucalypti there.
Thanks Again!
