These photos show a small section of my quarter acre suburban block with natural and supplementary food sources, a bird bath and pond to attract frogs when we get a stormy night. In the backgrouns is a a macadamia (Queensland nut tree) with a mango tree nearby. Also included are some of the birds seen in this area over the last 24 hours.

Do you get any small birds? Or does your butcherbird take care of them?

G'day booshkie, interesting question. Used to see silvereyes around, but no longer. One winter, a few years ago, i had a flock of chestnut-breasted mannikins flying in every day, but have not seen them since. The noisy miners might have something to go with the non-appearance of smaller birds as well.

Once our lawnmower broke and the grass went to seed before it got fixed.
We were inundated with red-browed finches that had only been occasional bird-bath visitors.
After that, we let a patch of grass grow long all the time to feed the seed-eaters.
Can't tell you how stupid I felt about not making the connection earlier!
