coucal pheasant

this bird was found two meters away from a bird of the same kind that was deceased, a friend has a suspicion that it is a coucal pheasant it is really young, have got it a baby bird formula, it sucks it off my finger have had it for 3 days, but cant find good information on it. if anyone out there has information that can help me please reply. He or she has a small body, large feet and head, a red tongue with a black out line. I’m warming up the formula is there anything else I can feed it, I’m feeding it every two- three hours,

Hi Rahh,

The first thing to do would be to get in contact with your local wildlife shelter / rescue centre and get some advice from them. I'm not sure what state you're in but if it's VIC then I can help you.

There are many things you need to know about correctly caring for wild birds, and it's best you speak to someone with alot of experience.

Hi rahh, how is the baby coucal going? What did you end up feeding it?

hey lois, yeah hes all good i decided to give him to a wild life carer so he will get everything he needs it was hard but it was best for him. while i had him i feed him off meal worms, crickets, frozen mice from the pet store, woodies so he had a good range of food, and he was in a healthy condition when i handed him over. missing him so much already.

Rahh that's great news, I think you've done the right thing. Maybe you're a bit of a natural with wildlife care, might be worth looking into becoming a volunteer ;)
