I'm always on the lookout for birds while travelling or camping in the Victorian High Country and sometimes you come across new and not so new birds. The Flame Robins took a bit of effort to capture, as they flitted about so fast.
Kookaburras are everywhere.

This one came about very late in the evening. A Wedge-Tailed Eagle had caught and killed an Ibis, but was subsequently beset by a pair of angry Mudlarks as it tried to get away with the Ibis.

Nice shots, good job getting the Flame Robins!
Great set, the last looks as though the wedgie is in persuit and sprinting after the Magpie-lark

Great photos Ray - thanks for posting.
Unique encounter of WT eagle and the magpie larks!
Thanks, so they are Magpie Larks and not Mudlarks as I was told.
The associated story was published before I discovered Birds In Backyards and started my own research on bird species. Fixed!

Ray, Mudlarks are just another name for Magpie Larks some people also call them PeeWee's but the most common is Magpie Lark.
Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. Tenacious little birds they were, not giving up for a second.

Looks like the Magpie Larks saw the WE as some kind of threat. They can be quite bossy even over a bird bath sometimes and have spoilt many a good photgraph opportunity for me. Willie wagtails are another bossy-boots as well.
Love the male Robins. They are so photogenic.

Great set of photos Ray. Yes I was confused when I first heard them called Mudlarks as well. We tend to call them Pee-Wee's up here in QLD. Which I'm sure kids find hillarious as it has both the words Pee & Wee in it. I think we call it that due to the Pee-Wee sound they make. Good to see the WTE taking out a newsance bird like the Ibis. A lot of my friends just call them "dump birds" I read somewhere that they use to migrate but because the food is soo abundant they no longer go.
Wow fantastic photos especially the set with the eagle.
Thanks all. I've been away in the High Country and couldn't respond earlier. While the weather was horrible, there were hundreds of Flame Robins about everywhere we went. Pity there wasn't much else.
