Birds at our home in Castlereagh NSW

I have recently renewed my efforts to photograph the birds that visit our property.

Wonderful variety of birds that you see there. Thanks for sharing your photos.

Really like your photos of the Little Lorrikeet and the male Rufous Whistler - birds I have not seen yet.

Thanks Whistling Duck,

they were new to me too. I was so pleased to have my camera when I saw them as I would never have been able to identify them except by taking the photos with a zoom lens and then looking at the pictures on the larger screen of my computer, my eyes are not so great and I can't see as much details so my camera is my best friend.

I shall post some more of the variety of birds we have, while they are quite common and some of them are feral species, I still enjoy recording in photograph the many different species in our yard.

If I have identified any of the birds incorrectly please do let me know, I like to get them right but am still learning the species.

Oh you are so lucky Wollemi, all of these fantastic birds right on your doorstep!  Your third shot of the Little Corella peeking out from it's hollow is so lovely, would also make a great painting I think too.  I am wondering if your juvenile male Golden Whistler might actually be a Grey Shrike-thrush instead?

The Group of Ravens are an Unkindness or Conspiracy.

Just some useless info I thought you would be interested in.

Hi Annie,

I shall post some more pics of the same bird. Let me know what you think. I have three more pics of that same bird. I look forward to your comments.

Devster, I wondered if there was a collective name for Ravens! Thanks for that. I love knowing the collective names for various animals, it is kind interesting really.

I agree with AnnieJ that it looks like a Grey Shrike-Thrush.

Im no expert though - I only saw my first Grey Shrike-Thrush a few days ago and asked about it here on the Identifications forum - http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/forum/Grer-Shrike-Thrush .

I'm still not too sure laugh, although leaning towards female Grey Shrike-thrush (lighter beak) more, but could maybe possibly be juv female or male GW....possibly I am thrown by the Tas GW's having such big boof heads in comparison to mainland sp.  Might be worthwhile popping into identifications section Wollemi, if you like, Lorne or Elsie or one of the other more experienced ID gurus would probably ID it in an instant and be able to explain why it is x and not y.

Female Golden Whistler, I reckon. More rotund shape than Grey Shrike-thrush & brown wash on wings.
